What is Ferro Silicon Zirconium?
Ferro Silicon Zirconium is made from quartz(silicon dioxide), zircon/zircon sand (zirconium dioxide), or zirconium dioxide containing related zirconium materials, and steel chips. These raw materials are added to the submerged arc furnace and heated electrically using coke as a reducing agent and a self-baking electrode made of electrode paste, and the principle of a redox reaction is used to replace the zirconium, silicon, and iron. Finally, the multielement alloy is formed with Ferro Silicon Zirconium as the main element and a trace of impurity elements such as Carbon, Sulfur, Phosphorus, Aluminum, and Calcium.
Ferro Silicon Zirconium is a kind of metallurgical casting used strong deoxidizer, high-efficiency inoculant, and modifier. Being an indispensable casting material additive, it has a greater effect on denitrogenation, and dehydrogenation, so that widely used in the metallurgical casting industry.
Production Process
1.Raw Materials Preparation
The raw materials such as Quartz, Zircon Sand, Steel Chips, etc., enter the factory after being inspected by the Quality Control Department of QINLI ALLOY.
2.Redox Reactions
These raw materials are added to the submerged arc furnace and heated electrically using coke as a reducing agent and a self-baking electrode made of electrode paste. After a series of redox reactions, the main elements, zirconium, silicon, and iron are replaced.
3.Molding&Cooling Process
The molten Ferro Silicon Zirconium comes out from the furnace, but will inevitably contain micro amount of impurity elements such as carbon, sulfur, phosphorus, aluminum, and calcium. We pour the molten Ferro Silicon Zirconium into a mold to shape it and then waited for it to cool to a solid state.
4.Inspection
When the product is finished, we will take samples for inspection. We keep samples of each batch for a certain period of time. Also, when the goods are packed, we’ll take samples for inspection again and these samples will be categorized and stored according to the shipment number.
5.Crushing&Packing Process
According to the different requirements of the customers, we will make different-sized products through the crusher. The products are then carefully packaged according to the requirements of customers through our packaging line.

Performance and Features
Ferro Silicon Zirconium inoculant is a potent inoculant that is widely used in gray iron and ductile iron due to its strong inoculation effect.
It also has the effect of neutralizing nitrogen in molten iron, so it is sometimes used to improve the nitrogen porosity in castings. It also can refine graphite and reduce the chilling tendency.

Ferro Silicon Zirconium inoculant can help control the nitrogen content, prolong the inoculation effect, and can eliminate the impact of nitrogen on castings.

It can also improve the mechanical properties of castings.

Applications
Ferro Silicon Zirconium is used in the production of various wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant castings, and the production of mining machinery and equipment, such as the bucket teeth of excavators,buckets, crawlers, grinding balls, and automobile parts.

Used as an inoculant in ladle inoculation, in-stream inoculation and in-mold inoculation.
Used in the form of cored wire (inoculant powder is wrapped in iron to make cored wire for applying wire injection method)
Production history
2002
Carried out the first trial production of Ferro Silicon Zirconium in Gansu. Production Equipment: 6300KVA submerged arc furnace; Main Raw Material: zircon sand; Production Content: up to 20% Zr.
2003-2004
The Zirconium content increased to more than 25%. Started to try to produce Zirconium inoculant by adding other alloys, such as MN, BA, etc., and achieved success.
2005-2008
The Zr content could be stabilized at over 30%. Moved to Inner Mongolia and contracted a 12,500KVA submerged arc furnace to produce Ferro Silicon Zirconium and other series of products.
2008-2015
Controlled the impurity elements of the products. The Zirconium element could reach more than 40%.
2018-2023
Established a production base in Xi'an, adopted refined management and strictly controlled product quality. The Ferro Silicon Zirconium produced by QINLI ALLOY are sold to many countries.
